E-mail Hosting: Virus & Junk Mail Filtering

If your business has been affected by virus encounters in the past, you'll understand how costly it can be. If not, think yourself lucky. Over the last year, we've prevented viruses from going to over 95% of our clients that have their e-mail hosted with us.

What will happen when a virus gets sent to me?

The virus will be blocked (and the e-mail rejected) as it enters our server, before it is delivered to you. You won't even get to know that you were sent a virus.

Is it 100% effective?

No virus checking can be 100% effective. We estimate that it catches 99.999% of all potential infections (1 in 100,000 may get past us).

How often is your virus system updated?

Our system is constantly on the lookout for new virus information and is usually updated within minutes of new virus details becoming available.

What happens when I receive junk e-mail?

Our system automatically looks at each message you receive and based on a number of factors, including the content of the e-mail, the sender and the servers it came through, calculates how likely each message is to be junk mail. A 'junk mail score' is then allocated to each message. If the message scores over 5, our system will add the text {SPAM 5.0} (where 5.0 is the score) to the subject of the message to help you identify and delete it.

On your request, we are also able to set a 'spam block score' on which you can specify that, for example, you want all messages scoring above 8 to be blocked before they get to you. Such messages will then be automatically bounced back to the sender without you having to even know they existed.

How accurate is junk e-mail detection?

Accuracy is improving all the time and presently we estimate that over 80% of all junk e-mail is detected by our system, with less than 0.001% (1 in 100,000) of e-mail being incorrectly marked as spam.
